"Zibun in the West"---A Preliminary Survey
This is a report of an on-going field work. A survey on the use and interpretation of ``zibun'' in the Western dialect of Japan reveals the following characteristics of ``zibun'' in this dialect. (i) The so-called ``blocking effects'' is less likely to be observed. (ii) There is more flexibility in assuming a nominal in a sentence as ``source'' (in the sense of Sells 1987) than the so-called ``standard dialect.''
