Title: Syntactic Aspects of Ga/No Conversion

Date: Friday, January 26, 2007, 14:00--18:00
Place: Konan University Room 1015, first floor of Bldg 10

I am concerned with the temporal interpretation of English gerunds and its implication to their syntactic structure. It is generally said that gerunds in English do not bear the °»irealis°… interpretation as opposed to infinitives. I specifically argue that this non-irrealis nature of English gerunds has something to do with the fact that the perfective gerund having is often optional depending on the semantic nature of the higher verb.
