Kobe Shoin Institute for Linguistic Sciences (SILS) is a new research institute, founded in May 1997. The emphasis of this institute is on a variety of subfields of both theoretical and applied linguistics and language studies. Its main activities will be
  1. Publication of its feature journal Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at Kobe Shoin (TALKS) and other technical reports;
  2. Hosting research meetings such as colloquia, symposia, and seminars addressed to both specialists and the public; and
  3. Acquiring and maintaining books and journals of the related fields.
